A Year of Learning to Listen to My Body | The menopause life and self-care

The Menopause Life Now

Gotta admit I've been meaning to write this update for quite a while now. As we're wrapping up 2024, I thought it was the perfect time to catch up and share what's been happening behind the scenes.

You know how it goes - we start each year with the best intentions, don't we? I had so many plans for this website, with a long list of articles I wanted to write about different aspects of my menopause journey. But life has this funny way of reminding us that sometimes we need to adjust our expectations and prioritize differently, doesn't it? It certainly did with me!!

This year has been quite the rollercoaster, especially when it came to managing my health. Earlier in the year, I was dealing with some major diabetes issues that were triggered by menopause - something that caught me off guard despite all my research and preparation. Thankfully, I have an amazing doctor who's been working closely with me to get things under control. I'm happy to report that things are finally starting to improve, and I'm in a much better place health-wise than I was a few months ago.

The truth is, I've had to be really selective about where I put my energy this year. Most days, it's been about focusing on the absolute essentials - taking care of my health, meeting important work deadlines, and spending time with hubby, who has been my rock through all of this. Work has been particularly demanding, and some days it felt like it was using up every ounce of energy I had, leaving very little bandwidth for anything else.

But here's the good news - I'm finally on my holiday break, and it feels like I can breathe again! I'm planning to catch up on some much-needed rest and relaxation. For the first time in months, I actually have the mental energy to tackle some of the things that have been sitting on my to-do list. One of the big changes coming up is that I'm moving the newsletter platform I’d been using to Substack. Gonna be honest, I’ve never really liked the platform I was using before. If you'd like to stay in the loop and get notified when there's a new post or article, you'll be able to sign up for the newsletter there.

Looking ahead to 2025, I'm feeling optimistic about being more consistent with posts and connecting with all of you more regularly. Sometimes we need these challenging years to teach us important lessons about pacing ourselves and setting realistic expectations. The plan is to have at least one or two posts a month. I’m not going to make promises I can’t keep because let’s face it, after the last two years, life happens!

To those of you who celebrate Christmas, I wish you a very Merry Christmas! And to everyone else, happy holidays! May the new year bring you joy, good health, and peaceful moments.

I'd love to hear how your year has been. What victories - big or small - are you celebrating? What unexpected lessons has 2024 taught you? Share your stories in the comments below - let's celebrate together as we close out this year.

If you'd like to connect with others who understand exactly what you're going through, I invite you to join our Facebook group. It's a wonderful community of supportive women sharing their menopause journeys. And don't forget to sign up for the newsletter to stay updated on new posts and resources.

Here's to making 2025 a year of growth, self-compassion, and better health for all of us. Thank you for being part of this journey with me.

Be well, and remember to be kind to yourself.

xoxo

  1. Sending you love and happy holidays! Here's to a rebirth of our mental health. And maybe some holy water and bleach to kill whatever was in our last energy well.
